Dubai Post 71: Happy Independence Day!
Happy Fourth of July to everyone back home! This might be the first time I have spent the
Fourth outside of the U.S. but I am not entirely sure. I believe I might have had a hockey
tournament in Canada one year but regardless, this is the only time that comes
to memory.
Throwback picture from my first trip to Minocqua...I wish I could be there today. |
It is a day like today that I wish I was back in the
States. I do not feel homesick or a
sense of sadness but it would be nice to be on a boat, having a crappy American
beer and eating a burger. This “wishing I
was in the States” feeling does not happen often. However, there have been a few times over the
course of the past few months where I felt bad, such as when I spoke to all my Connecticut friends in AC.
It is entirely different than a homesick feeling as well. When you are homesick, you almost do not want
to do anything. You feel lonely and would
give anything to just be home. However
in Dubai, I think about where my friends are celebrating the holiday, say to myself that I wish
I was there and then go about my business.
Needless to say, I will be going out after work (yes I am at
work on the Fourth) with a number of Americans.
We will be getting American beers, watching the sun go down and share
our favorite Fourth of July stories (Last part is doubtful but makes it sound
better).
My favorite Fourth of July spot is without question Minocqua,
WI. I have also spent the holiday in CT, Cape Cod,
the Hamptons and Madison, WI and Minocqua takes the cake. Words cannot describe what it is like up
there on the Fourth but if I could be anywhere in the world today, it would be
there.
Gods resting place: Minocqua, WI. If you have never been you should plan on going. |
Happy Fourth, everyone please watch some Independence Day, eat
a brat and drink a bud light for me!
